Stress-rupture test

Development and qualification of materials

Our accredited laboratory has over 120 single-line stress test devices with test loads up to 50 kN and temperatures up to 1200 °C.

Here it is possible to carry out creep, creep-crack, creep-fatigue, relaxation and stress-rupture tests. Some of the testing machines are equipped with devices for strain measurement for non-interrupted tests. Our test technology also offers the setting of load changes. All test systems are located in air-conditioned laboratories. Depending on the dimensions of the samples, it is possible to test up to four samples at the same time on each system. The temperatures of all of the installed samples are determined online using type S thermocouples and connected data loggers. The three-zone furnaces are regulated through digital controllers.

Applicable standards for the stress-rupture tests

  • DIN EN ISO 204:2019-04: Uniaxial creep testing in tension
  • DIN EN 10319-1:2003-09: Tensile stress relaxation testing
  • ASTM E139-11:2011: Standard Test Methods for Conducting Creep, Creep-Rupture and Stress-Rupture Tests of Metallic Materials
  • ASTM E 292-18:2018: Standard Test Methods for Conducting Time-for-Rupture Notch Tension Tests of Materials
  • ASTM E 1457-15:2015-06: Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Creep Crack Growth Times and Rates in Metals

CREEP TESTING

LONG-TERM TEST FOR MATERIALS

Zeitstandprüfung, Zeitstandversuch, Langzeittest für Werkstoffe

In addition to the test standards, guidelines and recommendations on creep rupture testing have been drawn up at national and international level which, on the one hand, validate comparable test results from creep rupture laboratories and, on the other hand, support the evaluation and assessment of test results for the determination of design curves. At the national level, guidelines for the performance and evaluation of long-term creep tests have been developed within the „Forschungsvereinigung Warmfeste Stähle und Hochtemperaturwerkstoffe (FVWHT)“. These working groups, in which the SPG is also actively involved, have played a decisive role in determining research in the field of high-temperature materials. Further recommendations for the performance and evaluation of creep rupture tests have been developed within the framework of the European working group ECCC.
