Developing reserves with high-power tools

By means of a load-based design it is possible to save material, which not only reduces the weight of the component, but also the manufacturing costs. Here, the recipe for success is: close collaboration between the designer and calculation engineer. With the help of high-performance finite element software such as ANSYS® or ABAQUS®, calculation engineers at SPG are able to find material reserves, while at the same time uncovering weaknesses and thereby helping to create designs which not only save materials, but also reduce stress. An important role is played in this by the exchange of data between the CAD program and FEM software, which at SPG is guaranteed using the programs SolidWorks® and ANSYS DesignModeler™.
